# How to read an Oregon business registry record

> Entity types, registration date, the employer match and its limits.

## How to read these records

### The registration

One record per registry number, active in the Secretary of State's file. “Assumed business name” is a trade name
registered by its owner; the others are legal entities. “Foreign” means formed outside Oregon.

### Employer or not

The state's workers' compensation employer file lists employers with active coverage, with a range of employees
(1–10, 11–49, 50–99, 100–499, 500 or more), an activity and an insurer. This site attaches it to a registered
business when the name and the ZIP code are the same and the match is unique on both sides. No match is not proof
that a business has no employees.

### Contractor license

When the same name and ZIP code hold an active Construction Contractors Board license, the record gives its number.

### What is not here

Registered agents, authorized representatives, mailing addresses, inactive businesses, and — for a business named
after a person — the street address.
