What this is
The Oregon Secretary of State publishes every active business registration. Another state file lists the employers that carry workers' compensation insurance, with a range of employees. This site joins the two: for each registered business, the record says whether it appears as an insured employer, with how many employees, in which activity, and with which insurer.
Who uses it
- Suppliers and lenders — is this company registered, since when, and does it have employees?
- Customers — does the contractor at your door carry workers' compensation?
- Owners — your own record as the state publishes it.
What it is not
Not the Secretary of State, and not a certificate of existence. The employer match is made on the name and ZIP code: a business with no match may still be an employer under another name or address. Registered agents and representatives are not on this site.
